When?

We planted in Michigan. In Michigan, you need to plant in the Spring, (March to May) or in the fall. We began planning our project in the winter, so when we came to planting time we had to go with the spring. We planted during the last week in April, so the weather was... interesting. It was in the low 40s with lots of wind. However, although this wasn't ideal for us, it was great for the plants! This way, they wouldn't dry out before we planted them.

Where?

We planted our grass on the dunes at Muskegon State Park. At Muskegon State Park, there are more than 1,000 acres of natural scenic area nestled between Lake Michigan and Muskegon Lake. There are many activities people enjoy doing here, including swimming, camping, boating, and biking. Many animals need this land for food and shelter. Milkweed grows there, feeding monarch caterpillars and butterflies alike. Many mammals live there too. That is why we need to preserve it. Dune blowouts, which happen when a sand dune collapses, can damage the dunes behind it and destroy the habitat.
